About
My name is Andreas Manessinger and this is my blog. It’s not a photo blog like my other blog, it is a blog about computer programmming.
I live in Austria. That’s at the heart of Europe, the home of Mozart, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler, the best skiing nation in the world and the worst in soccer, rich in culture, dramatic in landscapes, timid in politics. It’s a small, rich and beautiful country, Vienna being its capital. Vienna is where I work during the week, programming computers, and Carinthia, the sunny south of Austria, a region of mountains and lakes, is where is spend my weekends. I was born in Carinthia, studied in Vienna and have been living there since 1984.
I have a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Vienna. Professionally I have worked in mostly in C, Tcl/Tk, Perl, Python, Java and some C#, more or less in that order. I prefer UNIX, but I have written software for VMS (oops, quite some time ago) and Windows as well.
Most of my work was about distributed programming and software engineering. Currently I prefer the Java Enterprise Edition and Eclipse as a working environment, but it’s really not so much about the languages, it’s about the tools.
In late Winter 2010 I have decided, it’s time to do some big project again, and this time I want to do that publicly. This blog is about that project.
